Box 217, 7500 AE Enschede, The Nethe This study provides a unique opportunity to analyze the issue of flow forecast based on the soil and water assessment tool (SWAT) and artificial neural network (ANN) models. In last two decades, the ANNs have been extensively applied to various water resources system problems. In this study, the ANNs were applied to the daily flow of the Pracana basin in Portugal. The comparison of ANN models and a process-based model SWAT was established based on their prediction accuracy. The ANN model was found to be more successful than the SWAT in relation to better forecast of peak flow. Nevertheless the SWAT model results revealed a better value of mean squared error. The results of this study, in general, showed that ANNs can be powerful tools in daily flow forecasts. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

River Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin
Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...
متن کاملPerformance of SWAT Model in Quantitative and Qualitative Simulation of Runoff and Watershed Protective Measures in Zarrinehrood Basin
This study aims to simulate runoff and runoff quality of Zarrineh river basin by SWAT model. Calibration and verification were done respectively with monthly runoff statistics in SWAT CUP by SUFI2 method for 1992-2013, for 12 sub basin, 226 HRU and monthly nitrate data for 2006-2009. The highest runoff sensitivity and runoff quality with minimum Pvalue and maximum absolute value Ttest belong to...

The runoff simulation have particular importance in Civil works, river training, design and planning of ground water resources, flood control and prevention of environmental hazards and reduction of erosion and sedimentation in the watershed. The runoff in each region varies according to climatic conditions, hydrological, soil and vegetation in the basin. Simulate these processes need to ...
متن کاملIdentifying Critical Sources and Evaluate the Best Management Practices to Control Nutrient Load of the Dez River Basin Using the SWAT Model
Using the best management strategies (BMPs) is a useful way to control pollutions at the watershed outlets, which, of course, requires spending costs. Prioritizing these strategies (especially in areas with scarce resources) will greatly contribute to the efficiency and adequacy of these methods in terms of reducing pollution and their application in critical areas. In this research, the SWA...
متن کاملSimulation of Hydrological Balance in Eskandari Watershed Using SWAT Model and algorithms SUFI2
In order to manage watersheds, especially in mountainous areas that are not adequately station hydrological phenomena simulation is important. In this study, the SWAT model used to simulate hydrologic basin Eskandari. Calibration and validation of models for the periods 2006-1992 and 2009-2015, respectively, using the algorithm SUFI2 in software SWAT CUP was done. To evaluate the simulation re...
